NEW HUB TO BE THE CENTRE OF ATTENTION

- TONY RAGGATT

AN exciting new entertainment hub in Fairfield Homemaker Centre is set to wow Townsville.

Local builder Phoenix Constructions (Qld) has reached practical completion of the project, handing the building to developer Geon Property, allowing tenants to undertake fit-outs.

Already, golf simulator operator X-golf has opened with exceptional patronage during its first operations over the past weekend.

Other tenants include the Fish n Flips swim school, Lighten Up Studio, Fitspot and Urban Climb.

All are expected to open in the coming weeks and months as fit-outs are completed.

Geon North Queensland property manager Tracey Martin said they were excited to bring a mix of internationally and nationally recognised retailers to the growing Idalia area.

“We are thrilled to have reached this point of practical completion. Townsville has never seen an adventure fitness offering like this before. With the tenancy mix we have, it’s a pretty exciting place to be,” Ms Martin said.

Ms Martin said that with a planned stage 4b, which includes a cinema and food and beverage shops, the development would provide more than 4000 sqm of additional retail space.

An extra 135 carparking spaces had also been provided.

She said the tenancy mix would stimulate more interest in the centre from other potential retailers and that there were opportunities for others to join.

The centre is being developed over six stages.

In another stage, a specialist kindergarten for children with Autism and Asperger’s syndrome, to be operated by the AEIOU Foundation, is to be developed.

X-golf opened on June 24 providing six state-of-the-art golf simulators and an 18hole Hey Caddy indoor minigolf course.

The virtual simulation uses high-end technology and a projected simulated course to allow golfers of all skill levels to play some 50 courses from around the world. Ms Martin said X-golf had reported exceptional bookings over its first weekend with more than 100 simulator hours and more than 240 rounds of 18-hole mini golf played.

An Urban Climb centre will provide a bouldering or rock climbing facility with interchangeable holds to create climbing “problems” that climbing enthusiasts will need to solve.

With its fit-out yet to be completed, it is expected to open in coming months.

The design and construction of stage 4a has been undertaken by Townsville commercial and industrial builders Phoenix Constructions (Qld).

The project has created about 100 local construction jobs over the past nine months.
