Tacos to tempt tastebuds
HAVE you ever wanted to eat a mountain of nachos? Well, here’s your chance at the new California Tacos.
Franchisees Jessica Brereton and Mark Napier will open the new restaurant on Friday, bringing the popular tacos, and huge plates of nachos, from Burleigh Heads to Townsville.
The pair saw the franchise opportunity open up and jumped on it, meeting up with franchisor Ty Yturralde for some tacos in Burleigh.
Ms Brereton said they felt it was something Townsville needed.
“There is casual food along The Strand, but not everyone likes fish and chips, not everyone likes a greasy burger, not everyone wants to go fine dining,” she said.
“Anyone who comes here can come in flip flops or they can come in fancy, they can have cocktails, they can have a beer or they can have a … birthday here.”
She added that The Strand was notorious for being a little more expensive because of the view.
“From a business perspective, it was just a smart move, but also something super fun.”
Ms Brereton, who works with Mr Napier at the Mad Cow as well, said this was a chance to bring together their bar and hospitality experience.
California Tacos has taken over the old Oliver Brown building, with about eight months of work going into getting the new venture ready. The restaurant will have a range of cocktails, including six margaritas, and will make its own tortillas.
“We’ve had someone do our cocktail menu from Brisbane, who opens up a lot of really successful bars,” Ms Brereton said.
“She’s made our menu different to anything that is in Townsville.”
California Tacos opens on Friday, July 1.
