Don’t rain on Jack’s Barade
JACK Bruce helped to put the finishing touches on Coolangatta before her Gold Coast Magic Millions triumph this year and now he is looking to make his own mark with a very different kind of horse.
Bruce has been a jack of all trades in his career in racing, working with Bjorn Baker and Chris Waller, as well as Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace.
He moved to the Sunshine State this year, taking the giant step of launching his own training business and recently scored his first winner with Head Up High at Beaudesert.
Bruce (pictured) will take Oti-owned galloper alloper Barade, f o r m e r l y trained by Ar- chie Alexander r in Victoria, to o the Sunshine e Coast races on n Saturday as s the trainer r looks to pick up his first metropolitan win.
Barade will soon turn eight and it’s a different kettle of fish training the “old gentleman” horse to when he worked closely with star Maher and Eustace-trained two-year-old filly Coolangatta this year.
“Coolangatta stayed with me in Sydney and then I travelled to Queensland when she went up there to get ready for the Magic Millions,” Bruce said.
“Magic Millions day was my last big hurrah for Ciaron (Maher) as Coolangatta won the Magic Millions and Snapdancer won the fillies and mares race.
“About a month afterwards I left Ciaron’s. I’ve got 18 horses in work and I had a winner recently, so I’m off the mark.”
Bruce’s first introduction to Queensland was when he worked as Baker’s right-hand man, travelling Baker’s horses to the Sunshine State, which proved a happy hunting ground.
Bruce has high hopes Barade, a $12 chance and drawn in barrier one, can give him his first city winner.
