Island cruise is one of real exploration
A SPECIAL NAIDOC week cruise will take guests on a journey in which stories of cultural connections to country will be showcased.
Magnetic Island tour operator, Aquascene, and traditional dance group Wulgurukaba Walkabouts have banded together to celebrate NAIDOC week with a special event cruise to White Lady Bay, Magnetic Island.
The two-hour cruise is set to take guests on a journey to experience dance, stories and culture of the traditional custodians, the Wulgurukaba people of Gurambibarra, Townsville and Yunbenun, Magnetic Island.
Aquascene owner operator Stephanie Hinks said she felt the timing was right to explore the partnership and celebrate and connect with community, culture and country.
“We felt after the challenges of the last few years, it was time to explore this further and bring our community even closer together,” Ms Hinks said.
“NAIDOC week is an important opportunity for learning, connection and community, and we are truly blessed to be able to contribute in one meaningful way that will hopefully be a memorable experience on our beautiful island.”
She said she was proud to partner with the Wulgurukaba Walkabouts for the event.
Departing Horseshoe Bay on Thursday July 7, the Cultural Connections Cruise experience includes transfers, a traditional Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony, dances, bush tucker-inspired canapes and a return sunset cruise. Wulgurukaba Traditional Custodian and owner of the Wulgurukaba Walkabouts, Ashley Saltner, said NAIDOC week was an opportunity for all to learn about First Nations culture and history.
“One of the reasons our dance troupe was established was with the aim of offering people to participate in culture while being off their traditional country, and what this unique Cultural Connections Cruise offers is for us to share our culture with visitors to our country, which makes it all the more special.”
