Work to begin on Burdekin project
CONSTRUCTION is set to officially begin today on the Burdekin Water Park project after the site was handed over to contractor Playscape Creations.
Works will commence as soon as weather across the region eases, following several months of preparatory works on site, including relocation of services and the installation of a range of new underground water, drainage and electricity services.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn Mclaughlin welcomed the progress, saying it was exciting to see the water park project finally take solid shape.
“The Burdekin Water Park will be a legacy and act as not only a local attraction, but a drawcard for those from outside the shire also.
“After calling for tenders for its design and construction last year and preparing the site at the Ayr Swimming Pool over the first half of this year, council is excited to now be handing over to Playscape Creations to begin the construction of the aqua towers,” Ms Mclaughlin said.
“Council will be liaising with the contractors and consultants on site throughout the process to continue updating residents on the Burdekin Water Park progress, with expected completion and opening in early 2023.
“This will be a significant piece of infrastructure and will not take shape overnight: one of the first stages of construction will be the site foundation works before the laying of water pipes and pouring of the slab, with the water play elements of the facility installed following this.
“I want to commend Playscape Creations for working with councillors and staff to deliver a final design that is of high quality and within budget, and look forward to seeing the Burdekin Water Park take shape over the coming months.”
