Drugs charges denied

Woman to fight counts

- KATIE HALL

A TOWNSVILLE accountant has appeared in court for a second time charged with drug offences, but will fight allegations that she was found with more than $15,000 and methamphetamines.

Cara Louise Rayment, 46, last week appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court for the second time this year.

She is charged with five fresh offences, including two counts of possession of a dangerous drug, possession of tainted property, possessing utensils or pipes for use, and possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence.

Police allege she was found with methamphetamines and marijuana, as well as a bong, glass pipes and clip-seal bags.

The court heard that the tainted property charge related to $15,700 that police allege might reasonably be suspected of being tainted property.

Magistrate Ross Mack said there might be an inference of commerciality involved with the tainted property.

Rayment’s lawyer Tracy Brown told the court her client would be contesting all charges, except for the possession of marijuana charge.

She requested a brief of evidence be ordered for the contested charges. Court documents, seen by the Bulletin, state that all charges arise from June 5.

Ms Brown said that while the possession of methamphetamines charge was contested, it was not contested that the drug was meth.

This is not the first time Rayment has appeared before a magistrate for drug offences.

In January, Rayment pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count of possessing utensils or pipes for use.

On that occasion, Rayment had been found with 3g of marijuana during an intercept of her car.

Twelve days later, police found a glass pipe and two bongs, a clip-seal bag, electric grinder, and two 10mg oxycodone tablets and 5mg of hydrochloride in her home.

She was fined $1000 with no conviction recorded. Rayment’s fresh matters were set down for mention in August.
