POLITICAL VANITY

-

“GST: the gift which gives on giving!” To take advantage of Queenslanders, periodic price hikes on government-controlled transactions, along with the automatic CPI, attract even more GST, boosting the ever deepening state’s coffers. All goods and services, taxed at 10 per cent; are guaranteed income for government investment. The motoring public is a sitting duck, with cost of licences, registration and fuel, targeted at the government’s will, rising periodically. The state’s GST fuel windfall provides no relief for innocent motorists subject to the fallout of Putin’s war. Labor’s “silence” on the unexpected, lucrative, historical GST profits from fuel, is “golden”! “Now is the winter of our discontent”, and, conveniently, from July 1, our power is more expensive, exacerbated by the imminent demise of coal-fired power stations, due to negligence of renewable action over the past decade. And out of control, juvenile crime statistics, reflect the nonchalant attitude at the top. The Labor Government’s insistence on the 2032 Olympics, needs billions above standard running costs for its preparation. The Premier had the only bid, in a climate of rising world tensions and the high cost of imports. Higher government charges feed the greed. It’s political vanity to assume the Olympics were in the best interests of our state, “while (Ukraine) burns!”. Our Premier and her focus were caught out by the findings of the Integrity Commission’s report, declaring: “Something stinks in the state of ..”(Queensland)! Our quality of life is at the whim of a government exploiting its vulnerable constituents at every opportunity, creating an untenable economic crisis. Yet, after all taxing, we are still in historical debt, with this government at the controls. ELOISE ROWE, Tannum Sands
