Townsville Bulletin

POLITICAL POINTS

-

In response to the letter of

David Thoumine of July 12, I would like to see a proper professional survey of the people of Townsville in regard to the performance of the Palaszczuk government and our 3 government representatives in the Townsville area in regard to crime, in particular juvenile crime. Yes a survey like this costs money and someone to organise same, and this is where our local newspaper could come in to bat for the people of Townsville. The up side for the Townsville Bulletin would be a boost in sales and readership, and an uplift in the respect and appreciation what a local newspaper can still do for a community in the digital age.

Question (1) How do you rate the performance and policies of the Palaszczuk Government on crime, in particular juvenile crime and it’s affect on the Townsville community over the last 7 years? Excellent, Above Average,

Average, Below Average, Poor.

Question (2), (3) and (4) How do you rate the individual performance on crime, in particular juvenile crime of Member for Townsville Scott Stewart, Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper and Member for Mundingburra Les Walker? Excellent, Above Average, Average, Below Average, Poor.

The above questions could also be asked in regard to Premier Palaszczuk, Deputy Premier

Steven Miles, Police Minister Mark Ryan, Attorney-general Shannon Fentiman, and former AttorneyGeneral Yvette D’ath.

The final 2 questions needed to be asked to the people of Townsville should be Do you support Attorney-general Shannon Fentiman in her desire to raise the age of criminal responsibility to 14, which would result in car thieves up to 13 years of age to be virtually untouchable, and Do you think breach of bail should be an offence?

I feel pretty confident what the people of Townsville would say to such questions, and perhaps, just maybe, it may instil some common sense based on political reality/ oblivion into the mindset of the Palaszczuk Government. Even better, it may knock some of the arrogance out of the 3 members of parliament who have failed the Townsville community so badly. A bonus would be they will be dragged kicking and screaming out of the political bunker all 3 hide in, avoiding questions and scrutiny, and actually start answering questions that concerned citizens put to them in this newspaper.
