FESTIVAL’S WELCOME RETURN

- CAMERON BATES

Organisers of a major North Queensland music, arts, education and land-care festival are hoping to top attendance figures set during the inaugural 2021 edition.

The three-day Rootbound Festival returns to Mungulla Station near Ingham on August 12 to 14, incorporating native revegetation and tree planting with an extensive

program of live musicians, DJ’S, performances, art displays, workshops and kids’ activities.

Event director Jacob Mcmillan said the “massively successful” Rootbound 2021 had received nothing but positive reviews from party-goers, Hinchinbrook Shire Council, Hinchinbrook Chamber of Commerce and the local community.

He said the festival was looking to top the 1200 punters from 2021.

“With the positive response last year, we are stepping up production this year, adding a secondary music space in addition to our workshop space that will be converted into a cinema at night, art gallery, market stalls and a children’s space.”

Rootbound, a combination of the boutique Sprout and Coalescence festivals from the Tablelands and Mission Beach respectively, welcomes the return of Townsvillebased graffiti artists ALLHOURS crew and Diffraction Collective to paint a mural to serve as the centerpiece of the main entertainment stage.

Mr Mcmillan said the festival was also excited to be continuing aiding the ongoing landcare projects at Mungalla Station. Final-round tickets are available on the Rootbound website for $220 for adults and $100 for 15- to 17-year old’s.

Under 14s are free.
