Building on a quality reputation
ALTHOUGH Lyon Build NQ building company is just two years young, it is already gaining an impressive reputation in the industry.
Started by experienced builder Sean Lyon Smith, who has been in the building industry for almost a decade, the business specialises in high-quality timber homes, renovations and commercial projects within Townsville and the North Queensland region.
One of its recent clients, Skytrans co-owner Peter Collings, has just had an architecturally designed timber home at Home Hill completed by Sean and his team.
“Sean was fantastic,” Peter said. He not only has very good attention to detail, he completed the build on time and on budget. I was quite impressed. Before he started, he had everything planned and measured and had ordered everything he needed.”
Sean not only has a keen eye for detail, he has a hands-on approach that makes it easy for clients to work closely with him. He is currently on the tools full-time, runs the business full-time and deals personally with each client at all times.
“We are a small family business that has a really good crew,” Sean said. “We use the same subcontractors in every one of our jobs. They’re all passionate and committed to delivering high-quality builds and are driven to keeping every client happy.
“Our team is very organised. We haven’t fallen behind in one job.
Generally speaking, we’re four to five weeks ahead of most of our jobs.”
Lyon Build NQ sources materials from Cleveland Timber and Hardware, a Townsville business which has been operating for 45 years.
“As everyone is aware there have been waiting times for supplies, which is why we organise everything prior to the job to keep on top of everything,” Sean said. “We try and do one job before we start another, and it’s in the middle of one job that we organise materials for the next one.”
The team is all completely dedicated to finishing every single job on time. “If we ever do fall behind, we won’t knock off early,” Sean said. “We will just pick up the hours every day until we’re on top of things.”
Sean’s dedication to his craft is evident in all he does. Even the night after his wife gave birth, Sean was back at work the next morning.
“I have worked with builders on other projects in the past and this was the first time I had a project completed on time and on budget,” Peter said. “Sean has an incredible work ethic, and I would highly recommend him.”
