Thieves target young family
KAP candidate’s fury after break-in, vehicle theft
A TOWNSVILLE political identity has been left fuming after thieves raided his home while his partner and newborn baby slept in the next room.
Transport operator Clynton Hawks said thieves forced their way into his home and stole his car on Bayswater Rd, Mount Louisa, about 10.15pm on Sunday.
The new dad, who ran as the Katter’s Australian Party candidate for Herbert in the recent federal election, said the intruders used pliers to break open the back door.
“My partner and I and our brand new little bub went to bed at about 10pm, and about 15 minutes later, the thieves used a pair of multi grips to break in and took off with all three of our car keys,” Mr Hawks said.
“We didn’t hear anything until the Jack Russell started making some noise, which was unusual, so I sprung into action.
“By the time I got to the front door, they were gone, and so was my ute.”
Mr Hawks said his grey VW Amarok ute still hadn’t been found.
He said his Mount Louisa home was one of about three in his neighbourhood that was broken into on Sunday.
“Usually I’m on the other end of this issue, speaking about crime, and now I’m experiencing first-hand,” Mr Hawks said.

“I’m pretty grated right now, to be honest.
“I’m upset because I’ve got a newborn in the house, but there’s nothing I can do inside my own home, even if I do walk in on the criminals in the act …
“Unfortunately, usually, the police’s hands are tied as well, and they can’t do a damn thing when your cars are stolen until they find them on the side of the road or set on fire.”
