Heartfelt tributes for Aussie icon

AUSTRALIAN­S from all walks of life have joined a wave of grief online as they pay tribute to music icon Olivia Newton-john, after waking up this morning to the shocking news of her death.

Townsville Bulletin readers took a trip down memory lane in celebratio­n of Newton-john and the joy her talents brought to their lives.

Many labelled the film icon as a “gift” and said she was “a major part” of their childhood.

“Probably one of Australia’s greatest ever citizens and one of our most loved and cherished personalit­ies,” reader Sharyn wrote.

“May you rest in peace Olivia and know you left the world a better place because of what you gave to it.

“My deepest condolence­s to her huge family and friends. Vale Dame Olivia Newton John.” Another reader David wrote: “An amazing woman … what an inspiratio­n to us all – a legacy left behind that we can all learn from.

“When life threw you lemons, you didn’t just turn them into lemonade, you did it with such grace, humility and a shining smile … if only more of us took a leaf out of your book and recognised the importance to this one chance at life we have,” he wrote.

“Journey well in everlastin­g peace, Olivia.”

Others shared their own personal grief with cancer and how Newton touched their lives.

“Very very very sad. What a talent she was. What a beautiful voice. What a beautiful person,” Simon wrote. My best friend’s daughter who was her absolute biggest fan died recently from breast cancer which makes it even sadder.

“Hopefully they are together now. RIP Olivia.

Your pain is over.”

Reader Cathy wrote: “What stood out for me was how Olivia reached out to help others with cancer.

“Beautiful voice, stunning lady and amazing talent. RIP Olivia. Thank you.”

“A very sad day made more bearable with such an unselfish, kind and lovely person through and through,” Bruce wrote.
