Cody and Emma’s postcards from Venice
AUSTRALIAN swimming’s golden girl Emma Mckeon has shared some adorable photos of her romantic getaway with fellow Commonwealth Games star and boyfriend Cody Simpson.
The couple jetsetted to Venice, Italy this week for a well-deserved break after cleaning up in the pool at the Birmingham Games.
Mckeon, 27, smashed the record for gold medals won by any athlete in the Commonwealth Games’ more than 90-year history.
She took home six gold, one silver and one bronze to equal the most gold medals at a single Games.
“Racing for Australia is always special, but being able to share it with some of my favourite people and having my parents in the stands this time made it even more memorable,” Mckeon wrote to her 196,000 Instagram followers.
“The results are what I strive for and work hard for, but it’s the memories I make and who I share it with that I know I will keep forever.”
Simpson, 26, won gold in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay and silver in the 4x100m medley relay after swimming in the heats.
“For me, the very act of training morning and night and the thrill of racing is rewarding enough,” he said.
“To walk away from my international swimming debut with a gold and silver medal is something beyond articulation for now.”
Taking in the sights, the couple decided to hire out a private boat for a tour of the iconic canals. They also spent an evening enjoying each other's company over two classic Italian cocktails – Simpson sipping on a Negroni and Mckeon an Aperol Spritz.
The couple seem to have enjoyed hopping around Europe in their spare time during Games training.
They both shared a sweet photo taken in July in front of a Claude Monet classic inside the Musée de l‘orangerie gallery in Paris.
Mckeon and Simpson have recently put to rest swirling speculation that they were caught up in a troubled love triangle with swimming star Kyle Chalmers – who dated Mckeon in 2021, and called the rumours “just crap”.
Australian swimming great Grant Hackett told the Today show the rumour mill circling the trio was just that.
