Swans set sights on top of the ladder in Magpies match

- PHIL DILLON

CURRA Swans can make it a threeway tie at the top of the Townsville Renault Senior Women’s Cup ladder with victory over Garbutt Magpies on Saturday.

Victory would mean the Swans would join leaders University Hawks and second-placed Hermit Park Tigers on 48 points with 12 wins and three defeats.

A big win would improve the Swans’ percentage too.

Ahead of the clash they are on 230.5 per cent with the Tigers on 255.16 per cent.

It would also set up a huge clash in next week’s final round, with the Swans needing to beat the Hawks for a possible top-two spot and a place in the qualifying final, with a second chance to make the decider.

In today’s other clash, the Thuringowa Bulldogs will take on Northern Beaches Suns with Hawks and Tigers having a bye.

In the Townsville RMS Senior Men’s Premiership, the Bulldogs have already secured the minor premiership and finish their regular season with a clash against the winless Suns.

At Neil French Oval there is more at stake with the Tigers taking on the Hawks.

The Swans have the bye this week and will be hoping the Hawks can do them a favour by beating Hermit Park.

There are less than two points in percentage between the Tigers in second.

If the Tigers lose this week and the Swans defeat the Hawks in next week’s final home regular-season round, then only percentage will separate them, with a top-two spot up for grabs before the finals.

Tigers would still be the favourites to make it into the qualifying final, as they play the Suns in their last game.
