Cameron Robbie

Actor, 27, Queensland

- Fashion editor ANNABEL FALCO

When it comes to “cool”, Cameron Robbie (and his wardrobe) have it nailed where “70s French cinema” fashion persuasions mix with denim and Dior Diamond saddle bags to create the perfect ensemble. A seasoned thrift shopper (Armani suits for $40 – bravo!), Cameron fuses vintage, classic and luxury to create a closet that serves him from beach to BAFTAS where his grandmother’s chains give a nostalgic and stylish twist. Citing “attitude” as a wardrobe essential, Cameron’s wardrobe and fashion philosophy prove that true style can’t be taught.

How would you describe your personal style?

My style is always evolving, I like to mix a bit of nostalgic and vintage surf wear, with clean cut elements. If it’s formal, I like a classic look but accessorise in a way that gives it a bit of character and modern edge.

Who are your style icons?

’90s Brad Pitt, the cast of Dazed and Confused. If in doubt, I look to some ’70s French cinema.

What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe?

I have a couple of necklace chains from my grandmother and a couple of shirts from my grandfather, things I cherish.

What are your favourite brands?

Kourh, Paul Mccann, Kloke, Rhythm, Double Rainbouu, Commas, Venroy, Nanushka, Dior, Prada, Tod’s.

What’s the most you’ve spent on an outfit?

I usually bring pieces in and build as I go over time, always with consideration. But one year I was fortunate enough to tag along to the BAFTAS – I landed in London and realised I needed a tuxedo fast, I walked into Hugo Boss, found one that was perfect, it was pricey for me at the time but I was willing. What I didn’t realise is that I needed a cummerbund, cufflinks, the right shirt, the right shoes, the right socks! It was skilled upselling that made me hiccup, but I have no regrets, that tux is beautiful and it’s served me well. If it’s classic, I see it as a purchase for life.

Have you ever made a style faux pas?

Most people would say my pandemic mullet and moustache …

What is the most surprising thing in your

wardrobe?

A designated dress-ups box, a family tradition I’ve carried on, plus I’m always ready for a themed party. I think I even pulled out some ’70s flares that I ended up wearing to fashion week.

Top three wardrobe must haves?

Blue jeans. White tee. The attitude that you belong in what you wear.

What would you buy if money was no object?

An original 1957 Omega Speedmaster (watch). An obscene amount I would never spend but I think a cool story.

Summer or winter fashion?

The Queenslander in me will always say summer.

Loafers or sneakers?

Is there anything in your wardrobe you have regretted throwing out?

No, but I have regretted lending clothes out. Brandon, if you’re reading this, I want my MSGM jeans back.

Sneakers.
