Whole new board game for the city

- STEVE PRICE

She didn’t let me play. Not that I really blame her, I was a little boy and no doubt a pain in the bum to a much older sister. The few times I was allowed to play, I was the human sacrifice to every property of theirs that I mysteriously landed on. I loved Monopoly, and most of the time, because I only had me, it certainly was Mono, and I even managed to lose then too.

I loved board games, not many screens when I was a kid, other than fly wire of course.

Today though, after all the years of wondering about Pall Mall, The Angel Islington and Old Kent Road, this great city will have its own Monopoly Board Game, with its own places listed, how wonderful.

It will be launched at Strand Park, and to think on the original board there was a’strand’ too. Though of course we wont have a ‘The Angel Islington’ whatever that is, but no doubt visitors here wonder what ‘The Bohle’ is too.

This Townsville version of an age old game will be wonderful, I look forward to seeing what’s different, for instance they may have to print extra ‘Get Out Of Jail’ cards.

The Chance card saying ‘You’ve been elected Chairman Of The Board, pay each player $50’, maybe ‘You have been elected Mayor pay each local their rates back’.

Not sure if anyone will land on that, I think Jenny’s hidden it out in Cleveland Bay. On that point, where

is GO, I want to run around and around it and grab $200 each time.

We will simply have to wait to see what and who is on the board, and the famous Tokens.

I remember as a kid there was even a Thimble, whats a thimble? part of a drum kit….isnt it? What about the Townsville tokens, how about instead of the dog a gecko, race car wouldn’t be there of course because it vanished overnight, the battleship a ferry, the boot would have to now be a thong, Top Hat becomes a fisho’s bucket hat, and the famous thimble which I always liked…could be, well a thimble!

We could have extras like a mango and a croc, even a traffic controller and a copper to find the race car. Hang on, let’s simply call it ‘Mangopoly’ instead, and if you play it too often, like mango’s, you always have to ‘Go’!

Sincerely though, this will be fun having our own game, will we be getting other games, like a radio announcers game called ‘Haven’t a Cluedo’ even a doctors game named ‘Scribble’, a politicians game maybe ‘No Patience’. One thing that I reckon will be a huge bonus, that’s families together playing a board game, without any distractions like Facebook or computer games… though there maybe a loud Curlew in the back yard of course.

There is one downside around here, its pay day tomorrow, and the boss is buying a heap of the games, so looks like my mates and I will be trying to spend Monopoly money down the pu…coffee shop on Friday. Happy Days ooroo
