North Queensland has been warned of a grim summer of wild weather ahead, with a national property firm urging Aussie to prepare for a ‘devastating insurance crisis’.

Tony Pearson: I’ve heard that insurance premiums went up to its highest ever last year just after the BOMS report, 13 cyclones where meant to happen just on qlds coast. How many did we get 2? I think people should be reimbursed on their premiums because nothing eventuated from the fear mongering.

Daniel White: We get a one in a hundred year event in nq our insurance goes up through the roof or companies pull out. Happens in the rest of the country - nothing.

Alexsis Lammb: Yeah Townsvilles “wild weather” is going to consist of many nights of watching storms sail past us, sitting in the soup that is our air and hearing all about how “Queensland is copping a drenching” while it’s all just in Brisbane and we ain’t getting shot!

Missy Jane: No point having bloody insurance they aren’t paying out claims anyway. People that were in the NNSW floods last season are still battling to get claims paid. Many being denied for petty reasons

Shirley Smith: Yes, I was gobsmacked when my House Insurence this year increased by

$900 to over $5,000. Got other Quotes, not much difference, so threw my hands up in the air when I phoned my current Insurer asking for a Discount because I have been a loyal Customer for over 50 years, was told they don’t do that anymore. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place

Maria Madonna: Yep the only ones to prosper off crime and people’s misery is the insurance companies... They must have a good scam going with the weather forecasts.. I stopped paying these thieves yrs ago. Saving a fortune.

Speaking of the weather, the Bureau of Meteorology doesn’t want Australians to call it the BOM any more. But the announcement hasn’t gone to plan. Do you think BOM should change its name?

Julie Dell: BOM has been, and always will be the name we search for during weather events. Australians shorten everything anyway, so why change. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix It. We all know what it is, where and how to find it during a weather event. Maybe spend the money needed to rebrand on extending radar stations to western and central areas where there is no signal as evidenced during recent deluges in southern states

Jody Lindley: Pretty sure they’ve now GUARANTEED they only get called BOM

Penny Fairearth: Nothing wrong with BOM changing its name...as long as the cost comes out of the pay of the public servants who are proposing it..stop wasting valuable tax payer $

A peak Queensland housing body has warned that Townsville is on the verge of a “rental emergency” ahead of a crucial housing summit this week.

Jane Cox: Not just a problem for government housing, nothing out there in the rental market either. Yet they are scrapping NRAS ....

Charlene Vdv: Good few houses online , but nothing cheap enough lucky when you see rentals for $350 other wise it’s all up from there! Families being the ones left one side also. Been applying for the past 6 months and nothing!

Greg Cubit: It’s not just Townsville, it’s everywhere.

Not enough houses in Bowen with lots of land being sold, then they can’t get a builder….

Wesson Pauly: All the vacant ex housing commission homes near Rositter park !!! Abandoned !! Left to deteriorate !!! There’s over 30 good homes just in one area…. DISGUSTING PREMIER !!!!

Townsville council has unveiled the hefty price tag for its plans to roll out more than 100 new parking meters across the city next year.

Maria Madonna: Greedy council. They wonder why our city is a joke to visitors... Business can’t survive without customers and free parking..

Lucas J Armstrong: Please allow coin ticket machines, I feel sorry for the seniors that aren’t tech savvy.

Megan Hawke: Love that they are getting an app! No need to find a meter just do it all on your phone from your car

Mitch Wade: So after there is one meter meter for every car spot in the city what will they do with the spare 75 unused meters?

Gayle Barker: So if you have card ok if not you are screwed one step closer to being digital f that

Deb Don Pitt: About time. But

who goes into the city

Thomas Kelly: How careless for the elderly putting advanced pay wave machines for them

A Townsville family woke up to find their brand new $55,000 car had been stolen and damaged beyond repair after youths allegedly flipped it hooning at a popular soccer field. It comes as they come to grips with a tragic MS diagnosis.

Glynis Ruth Mathieson: I believe these kids should have to foot the bill for full replacement or there parents. Unless there is a decent punishment they will continue down this path of distruction.

Rhondda Basaglia: Pardon my ignorance,i thought this kind of happening was permissable in Townsville ( and wherever else it happens) isn’t it just commonplace with no repercussions now.?the only ones who hurt and pay are the victims.

Kerrie Anne Seaton: So courts aren’t doing nothing to fix the problem of these teens. Put them in the hands of the owners of property stolen so they can be punished properly

Marc Von Hoffrichter: Another one for the Monopoly Game.

Birralee-michael King: The laws protect the guilty and the victim then recieves the life sentence - thats how it works in this country.

Melissa Kearney: They don’t care it’s not theirs. They don’t have to pay for damage it’s all a big game to them

Terry Hartman: It not only happens up there it’s everywhere in

Australia

We also have to take responsibility of where our car keys are the old saying lock it or lose it

Hayden Lloyd: Can’t run a red light without getting a fine yet these kids out trashing people cars and lives yet don’t pay a cent ...

Michael Bauer: You may have seen the large stones going around the author parks lately to stop this sort of thing at cost of $400000 + add that to bill as well.

Alan Bartlett: So how are they beating the engine immobisers? Doesn’t anyone have security systems in Townsville?

Pete Lancaster: The government can, at the drop of a hat, mandate all cars under 5 years of age be fitted with an immobiliser. The car cannot be started or driven without a four digit pin code being entered. The technology is here now. However the government won’t do that as crime is a big money spinner for them.

David Kirkpatrick: Welcome to Queensland, livability scale 0.

Laura Pasini: Let the bikies come back to town they will sought them out

Kirstin Mcnab: Everyone knows how bad crime is in Townsville so why would anyone buy a vehicle thats rediculasly expensive because it will become an easy mark to steal and destroy.

Stick Geoff Keeley: Same thing happens in the NT and WA . All have one thing in common , A Labor Government .

Tania Joy: Unfortunately nothing happens to them it is very sad that we as a community have to deal with the juvenile delinquents

Julie Butcher: I drive a 2009 Mazda and don’t want to buy a new one because of entitled ferals Fcks like these.. useless members of society

Barry Spoto: Take away the parents payments n watch these kids get the flogging of their lives

Wesson Pauly: Send the bill directly to the premier !!! It’s time for a massive class action against this government !!

A Townsville youngster who has climbed to the top of Australia’s fundraising leaderboard is set to cap things off in style.

Nick Dametto MP: Well done Kobe!! Making us all proud.
