18yos on target with ball in wins

- NIC DARVENIZA

EMERGING Norths bowlers Cody Sadler and Jarrod Camer have spun North Queensland’s under-21s within reach of a state championship.

Left-arm offspinner Sadler, 18, collected career-best bowling figures with a five-wicket haul in a 23-run 50-over win against CQ.

Right-arm offie Camer, 18 this year, almost repeated the dose in Sunday’s T20 with figures of 4-17 in a 17-run T20 victory over the same opposition.

Captain Bingen Balanzategui Jr was impressed with the youngsters’ efforts against more mature opposition.

“I think they did really well. They didn’t hold back,” Balanzategui said.

“They didn’t let the big stage get to them, they played their own cricket, stuck to their own guns and processes and it obviously paid off.

“Cody Sadler bowled really well and took his first five-for, in a rep game and as a 18-yearold. He bowled really well.

“Jarrod Camer got called in for the T20 and he’s only turning 18 this year. He took fourfor cleaning up the tail. It’s really good, it shows we have a lot of talent coming through.”

Wests recruit Jett Prien combined well with veteran Lucas Sunderland in a strong middle order batting performance in the 50-over win.

Skipper Balanzategui put the team on his back in the T20 with a tournament-high 55 from 42 balls.

“I went about it how I would in any other innings,” he said.

“I just get myself in and then have someone good up the other end back me up in a batting partnership and that happened.”

Balanzategui reported the team had bonded well ahead of the next stage, a road trip to face Mackay-whitsundays on their home deck.
