Townsville Bulletin

We shared the news of the week to Townsville Bulletin’s Facebook page, and this is what you had to say.

-

The expansion of a Townsville child care centre has been blocked by council after it was revealed the centre was seemingly operating for years without proper planning approval. But the owners say there’s more to it.

Rachael Vogel: I always thought it was weird that the centre had no car park and it was on street parking only. Every childcare centre I have ever seen in my experience has a car park for safe arrival and departures at the service for children and families.

Vicki Louise: There is such a shortage of childcare in TSV, and the council denying this expansion because of inconsistent advice (given by the council) in regard to a MCU is such a shame!

Stephen Marr: In other words businesses can operate without proper planning approval surrounded by red tape for years so long as they don’t send in any future expansion plans.

The NRL transfer market is hitting overdrive, with a North Queensland Toyota Cowboys big gun set to ink a bumper deal.

Chad Hamilton: Would be stupid to let him go ! Glad they’re keeping him, a huge part of our success.

Amanda Corsaro: Omg please say he is staying at cows

Reuben Cotter’s Kangaroos debut didn’t go as planned when he was knocked out by Fijian powerhouse Tui Kamikamica - and the response from his nearest and dearest was just as brutal.

Jenelle Mccarrick: Take notice of concussion, take notice from your father, when you watch your own father suffer in a nursing home from the rugby league hits....

Janene Brown: Listen to the podcast Head Noise from The Australian and presented by James Graham.

Peter Smith: Toughest little fella in the league.

A prime holding on Townsville’s Strand is up for sale with approvals to demolish the Criterion Hotel and develop a building of up to 20 storeys.

Lyndal Copnell: They want to demolish a beautiful old building like that but if you own a old qlder they stipulate what you can do to your own home.

Mick Cadman: I thought a heritage listed building had to be renovated to its original specs?

Brooke Morris: They should turn it into something like gilligans in Cairns.

Tania Lang: So many good time in 80s at cri my son use to work at cri it was like second home.

Tia Lee: How many times have we heard developments & investment in this area & nothing moves forward.

Robyn Bannah: It isn’t a historical listed building as it has been rebuilt from the original.

William Walker: Leave the old hotel alone. They should restore it for future generations, Townsville is too unnatural as it is.

Kerry Schneiss: OMG!!! Fancy knocking down yet another icon. Just like the Theatre Royal & The Wintergarden. WHO makes these decisions??? Absolute DISGRACE!!

North Coast Combat Fitness: So

many great times.

Great spot glad to see it will regain life:

Valerie Gibbs: Townsville City Council should do a referendum on this as the Criterion has a whole lot of history and if they keep demolition these buildings we will have no history and to build 20 stories it bloody stupid.

Carole Power: If they develop the Cri they could include lots of car parking for the new aquatic centre where the sailing club is. No parking as it is. Mariners Drive is a private road paid for by the owners Of properties fronting both sides.

A stolen car has been linked to a teenager’s suspicious disappearance in North Queensland as police reveal new details in the investigation.

Camara Osborne: Wishing her family and search parties involved that she is found safe and well.

Jannine Napier: I pray she is found safe for her family.

Customers’ increasing preference for online banking has forced the closure of more than 300 bank branches and a number of ATMS in Australia in the last financial year.

Scarlett Hullee: No, I’m old fashioned that way though! Technology is unreliable and too easily compromised! It also expects that we upgrade devices to be able to utilise a lot of newer uses of it (ie NFC

I also feel sorry for all those who’ve now lost their jobs!

Sherry Cox: wait!!! Think of oldaged people don’t know how to use online. Now I use ATMS less than before. Sometimes I need cash if they refuse cashless.

Pam Milner: No! Absolutely not, with all the scamming we hear about constantly.

Vicki Tirendi: The banks started it….. anything to save them money.

Robyn Molino: No and never am techno illiterate
