LOCAL NETBALL STAR SELECTED FOR AUSSIE TEAM

- PATRICK WOODS

RISING Townsville netball star Zoe Rebgetz has gone from strength to strength, capping off a spectacular year with selection in the under-19 Australian team for 2023.

The 17-year-old has just returned from representing Queensland at the under-19 Indoor Netball Australia Super Nationals 2022, where she was named runner-up Best and Fairest in the 7s format.

Playing for Queensland is nothing new for Rebgetz, who has made the state team previously at under-12 and under-16 levels.

She said representing the state in indoor netball this year was an amazing experience.

“The tournament was excellent but long – first, we played a game called 6a-side which I went OK in, then we continued on to 7-a-side which I played a lot better in, resulting in me being named runner-up Best and Fairest for the carnival,” Rebgetz said.

“Even though making Australia for indoor is an amazing achievement, I’d like to make Queensland or higher rep teams in outdoor netball next.”

The latest accolades cap off a spectacular year for Rebgetz, who was named Player of the Final when she won the Carmichael Ford Premier League with Runaways, and made her Sapphire Series debut with the Northern Mendi Rays.

Rebgetz said she couldn’t have got to where she is now without the support of her mum and other mentors.

“My mother Christine Rebgetz has been a huge mentor for my indoor netball along with Alicin Everson (Runaways club president), Bec Bulloch (coach) and Sonya Lampton (veteran player),” Rebgetz said.

“All these ladies have had a huge impact on my netball career so far.”

In a stellar year for the starlet, Rebgetz was also selected at centre in the Carmichael Ford Premier League All Star team and was named the

Townsville City Netball Association (TCNAI) Junior Player of the Year.
