RockersR return for ripper night out
IT’ been three years since altrockers Regurgitator came to Townsville, along side acts like Billie Eilish and Coolio at Groovin The Moo.
Lead vocalist Quan Yeomans said the trio – whose sophomore album UNIT has just had its 25th anniversary – felt like “fish out of water” on the GTM stage, despite years of early performances at festivals like Big Day Out.
“It was a weird one, Groovin The Moo,” Yeomans said.
“Because it was a really young crowd, and obviously a Triple J crowd as well; we haven’t been played on Triple J for years. Decades, probably.”
The band recently finished playing the Spring Loaded Festival tour, and Yeomans said they felt much more comfortable with other bands of the same era.
“It’s really great to catch up with old friends and see them all play, brilliantly, again,” he said.
“It was competitive back in the day, and you kind of thought everyone was s--t except your band – I mean, I know I had those competitive feelings – but when you see the bands play (now), you kind of know why they were successful. There’s a lot of talent there, and they’ve kept it going.”
Yeomans – who spent some time living in Townsville as a child – said he was looking forward to returning to North Queensland this weekend, which will be a very different vibe to their Good Things Festival appearance next month.
“We’re a very different band in a club, I feel. Like I feel far more in control of the space when I’m dealing with less than 1,000 in a small room, as opposed to a festival,” he said.
Regurgitator will perform at the Dalrymple Hotel tonight with local band Trash Meow and Sydney duo Party Dozen. Doors open 8pm. Tickets $45 + booking fee or $55 at the door.
