SHAYNNA BLAZE

- WITH JONATHON MORAN

The Block judge and style queen explains her delight at an encounter with Thor and her irrational fear of the walking dead …

What three things would be at the top of your bucket list, if you were to have one?

Since my early 20s, I have wanted to live as a local in Paris and Provence for six months and paint. I want to travel to the Northern Lights with my kids and just sit and then see Santa. And to live my fullest life at the age of 100 like Iris Apfel.

What is your guilty pleasure in life?

Long lunches that move into dinner, live music and dancing.

What was your first casual job?

A waitress in a large restaurant. I learnt to hold four plates at a time and to know the customer was always right (when we knew they weren’t). The tips were bigger than the wage.

Have you ever asked a celebrity for a photo or an autograph?

I have a few times but the best one was with Chris Hemsworth and Sam Worthington. I was too excited to be nervous at the time but gee, I was a bit bold!

Most memorable moment with a fan?

A mother flew her daughter to Melbourne for the weekend to see me do a talk. She was eight years old, very shy but she was just adorable. The next year they flew over for my book launch. She is now a teenager and a beautiful, confident girl and we talk to this day. You don’t forget those special meetings.

Have you ever looked up an old high school crush/unrequited love?

No, when you move on, you move on.

Do you believe in ghosts? If so, tell us why or any experience you’ve had.

I sure do and I have had my own experience with a presence. You could feel the cold presence walking past a certain room, doors would gently open or close by themselves (plus a few other things) until one day, I found out who had lived there before, called out her name and told her we meant no harm but she is scaring the children. We NEVER had those issues ever again.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

I sure do. There is no denying that lightning bolt that hits when that person is in your sightline. It’s not about looks, it’s about energy, undeniable attraction energy. If you haven’t had it yet, I wish it for you as it is undeniably exciting.

Do you have any irrational fears?

Zombies – they’re not real, are they? The noise, the dead walking … I just can’t stand it. Can’t watch. Can’t be in the room.
