- AISLING BRENNAN

THE husband of a young woman killed in a crash on Hamilton Island during their honeymoon has been charged over her death.

Robbie Morgan, 30, and Marina Morgan, 29, were celebrating their honeymoon when their golf buggy overturned while doing a Uturn June 20.

Mrs Morgan suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

The couple from Sydney had just tied the knot 10 days earlier at Doltone House.

Following his wife’s death, Mr Morgan wrote on Facebook he would love his wife “forever and ever and EVER!”.

“My heart is broken and my world shattered with the tragic loss of the most beautiful girl in the world.. my angel.. my saint.. my wife Marina Hanna,” he wrote.

“My rock, my partner, my confidant, my angel, my saint, my everything! The world will never be the same…”

Following an extensive investigation, Mr Morgan was charged with driving without due care and attention causing death, wearing of approved seatbelt by driver, wearing of approved seatbelt by passenger and using a mobile phone.

At the popular tourist destination, golf buggies are the main mode of transport around the island’s 740 hectares.

Hamilton Island states on its website all occupants riding in any buggy must be wearing their individual seatbelt at all times.

The island spans 5km from north to south and 3.5km from east to west, with 30 per cent of Hamilton Island developed into accommodation, attractions and restaurants while the remaining 70 per cent is in its natural state.

An off-duty firefighter and dentist had worked frantically to save Mrs Morgan after the buggy had overturned

The firefighter and dentist were among the first on the scene and immediately started giving first aid Mrs Morgan, who had gone into cardiac arrest.

They were joined by a doctor and paramedic from the island, who for 35 minutes performed CPR, but tragically she died at the scene.

Mr Morgan is expected to appear before Proserpine Magistrates Court on December 5.
