All eyes are on

North Queensland

On 7 March, we as a region secured the future prosperity of the North for generations when Premier Hon Annastacia Palaszczuk visited Townsville for a history-making announcement - Copperstring 2032.

The enabling transmission line from Townsville and Mount Isa and connection to the National Electricity Grid for the first time in Australia’s history. A project that will unlock $740 billion of known critical minerals and 33GW of renewable energy to enable green manufacturing and advanced processing in Townsville North Queensland.

We will be the only city in the world that is home to the first green zinc refinery and the global processing hub of all green battery materials the world desperately wants – zinc, copper, Queensland Pacific Metal’s nickel and cobalt, vanadium and lithium.

The only city in the world! Combined with Australia’s best solar and wind resources in the Hughenden area and the vast amounts of water in the Burdekin River system, our region is poised to be the largest

Townsville exporter of green hydrogen in the country.

Townsville North Queensland is taking centre-stage globally. We have what the world wants, and we stand united as a region to harness this opportunity.

Townsville North Queensland and our neighbouring communities to Mount Isa, are the future of decarbonisation and green manufacturing for our state and the country.

The announcement of Copperstring has already deliver

ed the first vanadium electrolyte facility in Townsville which will be completed by 2024. The private sector now has the confidence to invest here.

The region’s project pipeline has never looked more promising with $65 billion worth projects proposed, committed and underway for the region.

Some of these projects include the Lansdown Eco-industrial Precinct, Big Rocks Weir, the Townsville University Hospital Expansion, Mater

Private Hospital

Townsville Expansion, Townsville’s newest five start luxury hotel, Ardo, the James Cook University Aquaculture Accelerator at Tropiq and the list goes on.

Independent research by AEC has shown, our region is likely to grow to 300,000 people in the next decade – that’s more than 50,000 new jobs.

We are open for business for the private sector, and we will work with all levels of government to Unlock the North for the benefits of all Queenslanders.

The agenda that Townsville North Queensland lives and breathes perfectly aligns with the decarbonisation agenda of the private sector and the local, state and federal governments.

Over the past two weeks, our region’s Mayors from Townsville, the Burdekin,

Charters Towers and Hinchinbrook together with Townsville Enterprise had more than 30 meetings at State and Federal Parliament. The region’s message to Unlock the North and what we need to see in the State and Federal Budget was heard loud and clear by Ministers, senior advisors and the Opposition: Housing, workforce attraction, regional migration as well as health investments and water security are key to deliver the biggest investment pipeline we have ever seen.

All eyes are on Townsville North Queensland. Together with our members, we are securing the future of the region.
