Junior league star joins Cowboys

- Jake Garland

A North Queensland junior league star has become the latest signing for the inaugural Cowboys NRLW side.

Tahlulah Tillett has signed a one-year contract with the North Queensland Cowboys after spending a number of years in the Cowboys Women’s Academy.

The talented halfback played four games for the Newcastle Knights during the 2021 NRLW season.

Tillett said she wouldn’t be where she is today if it wasn’t for her support.

“It is a special moment for myself and my family as well to get picked up by the Cowboys,” Tillett

said.

“I grew up a Cowboys fan and with the family history through the Cowboys, it is just a great feeling to sign with them.”

After a number of injury setbacks Tillett, 24, represented the Indigenous All Stars team in 2022.

“It was a tough few years that I had to go through but I have been back playing footy now and enjoying it,” Tillett said.

“I look back at what I went through and now see what I have been able to achieve and will help me achieve over the next few years as well.

“I am now just looking forward to putting on a jersey this year and playing for the team I have loved for so long.”

Tillett played 14 games for the North Queensland Gold Stars in the BMD Premiership across the 2021 and 2022 seasons, including a starring role in the 14-12 grand final triumph last season.

With a massive 29 tackles and a try assist, Tillett helped the Gold Stars secure a thrilling comeback victory.

The Tillett family name is well known throughout North Queensland.

Her father Stephen played reserve grade for the Cowboys during their inaugural season in 1995.

Her grandfather Nigel is the current chairman for Cowboys feeder club the Northern Pride.
