Council commits to Flying- Fox Dispersal Activity in Home Hill
THE Burdekin Shire Council has committed to engaging the services of Biodiversity Australia Pty Ltd (BA), a professional company, to address the Hill, following concerns raised by residents. roosting in the Home Hill noise, odour and property issues for locals and as a result, Council has taken action to address these concerns.
Commencing on Tuesday 16 May, the dispersal activity may take up to two weeks to complete. It will be conducted in compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines to ensure the methods will be employed to encourage the animals to relocate to alternative roosting sites, away from residential areas.

Mayor Lyn Mclaughlin said she was aware of the causing to residents and Council was taking these concerns seriously.
“Council is committed to addressing the community’s concerns and after detailed preparations to meet and abide by requirements under legislation, the decision was made during last weeks Council meeting to implement practical measures on this issue,” Cr Mclaughlin said.
Dispersal activities, including audible deterrents will occur each morning between 5:00am and 7:00am.
Residents are advised to take measures to secure their pets during the operation times and private landowners are reminded in their trees, they are entitled to dissuade them destructive disturbance techniques such as smoke, water sprinklers, visual deterrents such as imitation predators, bright lights, and noise from various commercial or improvised products.
