THE QUADDIE
RACE 6 XXXX CHIEF DE BEERS (L) (1110M)
Prime Candidate ($10) held on well for fifth in the ATC Cup (1200m) at the Sunshine Coast after leading. Provided he doesn’t work too hard to hold the front, the 1110m around Doomben looks ideal. The Big Goodbye ($6.50) finished just ahead of Prime Candidate when showing his typical courage from a wide draw. He likes Doomben and should be in the finish again. Orbisyn ($7) likes to lead, but with Prime Candidate drawn the rails he may take a sit. Goldsborough ($6) is reliable and gets every chance from the good draw.
SELECTIONS: 3 Prime Candidate, 4 The Big Goodbye, 14 Orbisyn, 7 Goldsborough
RACE 7 XXXX DOOMBEN CUP (G1) (2000M)
Zaaki ($1.9) is clearly the class runner and although only a narrow winner last start, he’s ready to peak third up. Kovalica ($9.50) missed the Rough Habit Plate last week due to a minor setback, and he has drawn poorly, but he looks a top prospect and can make his presence felt against the older horses. Huetor ($11) hasn’t won since upsetting Zaaki in this race last year when it was staged at Eagle Farm. His last two starts suggest he could be the giant-killer again. Zeyrek ($16) was close-up behind Zaaki last start and gets a soft economical run.
SELECTIONS: 1 Zaaki, 13 Kovalica, 3 Huetor, 5 Zeyrek
RACE 8 BRC SPRINT (G3) (1350M)
Coal Crusher ($7) needs to find a length or two to win at this level but he can lead comfortably here on a track with ease in the ground which he likes.
Cardinal Gem ($4.60), although drawn the outside barrier, arrives with excellent form from Melbourne. He was an impressive winner of his last two starts. Bacchanalia ($8) was much better last start when second to Stradbroke favourite Think About It, in the Takeover Target at Gosford.
Sinawann ($16) was eye-catching in a trial behind Giga Kick at Randwick and quality mare Excelida ($15) was super in her recent Doomben trial win.
SELECTIONS: 9 Coal Crusher, 3 Cardinal Gem, 12 Bacchanalia, 6 Sinawann
RACE 9 ANZ BLOODSTOCK NEWS THE ROSES (G2) (2000M)
Renaissance Woman ($3.30) was outstanding in winning the Bracelet at the Sunshine Coast and will eat up the 2000m. Fireburn ($6) is a Golden Slipper winner and she was good in the ATC Oaks (2400m), but better suited back 400m here. Madame Odette ($15) found the line strongly in the Bracelet (1800m) and gives every indication that this distance will suit. Premise ($11) is a tough filly freshened since running third in the ATC Oaks and the good draw gives her a chance, while the Kiwi Sakura Girl ($5) is fit.
SELECTIONS: 3 Renaissance Woman, 1 Fireburn, 9 Madame Odette, 6 Premise
