It’s all wrong Letters

-

What is wrong with the Cowboys this year? Last year showed hope that this year they might get to the “big dance” (the grand final). I feel sorry for any members who have already booked flights to Sydney for the grand final before the prices become outrageous, and also to the members who have bought season tickets.

I’m not sure what is wrong, but to have conceded 52 missed tackles in the game, losing 36 to 18 with 20 minutes left and then concede 5 tries in the last 15 minutes, something in the club is not good enough.

To have players at press conference say “they were more enthusiastic than us” is a cop-out. If the Cowboys are not enthusiastic about playing, then why are they still in the team each week? Not sure how many players have been dropped after any of the 7 losses this year other than injuries or suspension.

If a player is fined for an incident in a game, then who pays, the club or player? If a player is suspended, should he be penalised from his salary for the games he is missing, or if he is injured, should he be treated like other workers who have a certain amount of sick pay each year? The players are highly paid and should be treated like other workers. Perform or you might need to find a new job.

Unfortunately, with the salary cap these days, I do not believe there is any loyalty to any club. I respect Johnathan Thurston for staying with the Cowboys when he could have made more money switching to another club. Players these days may have played for 4 or 5 different clubs.

Also, highly paid long-term contracts can have a detrimental effect on the team if any player is not playing up to the potential he is paid for. Other players can then say, “why should I worry if the other player doesn’t? He is paid highly, I am not”. WARREN SINCLAIR,

Belgian Gardens.
