Scream heard before man dies

- Jessica Wang

Neighbours claim they heard screaming and yelling on the night that a man died from several serious stab wounds at a home near Brisbane on Saturday night.

Queensland Police were called to a home on Mine St in Redbank on Saturday night at about 10.25pm, where they found the 63-year-old with several serious stab wounds. Emergency services attempted to treat the man, but he died on the scene a short time later.

A 28-year-old man from Boronia Heights was taken into custody and later charged with one count of murder, threatening violence and possess dangerous drugs (methamphetamine).

He will appear before the Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.

Detective Inspector David Briese described the crime scene as “bloody,” and said a “large” knife was discovered at the unit. He also confirmed that the accused did not call emergency services.

“It was a very frank scene, obviously, significant wounds to the deceased and a lot of blood,” he said.

Police will allege there was also a woman and a four-yearold child inside the unit when the altercation occurred.

“They weren’t harmed during the incident, however, there were some threats (allegedly) made by the offender and he has been charged in relation to as well as the homicide,” Detective Briese said.

He said the two men were “known to each other”.

Speaking to the Courier Mail, multiple neighbours said that they heard shouting prior to police appearing at the home.

One neighbour, Charlie Ridgeway Jr, said he heard a scream before police arrived at the home.

“Pretty much what we heard last night was arguments in the flats, we heard yelling.

“We heard a big scream right after the yelling, like a grown man scream. About 20 minutes later, 20 cop cars were here.”

Police were still determining the relationship between the two men, however, they said that they were “known to each other”.
