From the south Letters

-

I think maybe your Wednesday editorial was a bit tough on the PM and his lack of interest in the roads in and out of North Queensland.

Poor bloke, he’s always on the go to various functions around the world, plus childcare centres, womens’ institutes, etc, to make sure that all his subjects love him, and North Queensland is probably the least of his worries.

Remember Kevin Rudd had a similar problem when he was stumped by a TV reporter who asked him about NQ’S tyranny of distance, and his answer was, “Fair suck of the sav old chap!”

Then again, some years before that, but in a similar vein, Julius Caesar said to the angry hordes protesting about the poor condition of the roads north of Londinium, “I’m doing my best – it’s not all beer and skittles you know!”

So let’s give Albo a bit of slack – he lives somewhere south after all, and it’s a big stretch to even imagine he would even know where North Queensland is, never mind whether we have any roads.

It must be a never-ending battle for him to keep up with all the demands on his time – he even reached the stage this week of acting as a stand-up comic at the Olympic Stadium in Sydney to welcome India’s President Modi to Oz just to pacify the local Indian population.

It’s quite possible that we have somewhere in the government a Minister for Main Roads that we could blame for our hopeless transport infrastructure, and let Albo off the hook, temporarily at least, until he finds time to get up here and have a squiz.

RON STONE,

Townsville.
