Thrilling welcome to new home ground for North Queensland NRLW recruit Dibb
Inaugural Cowboys NRLW signing Kirra Dibb enjoyed a heart-stopping introduction to Queensland Country Bank Stadium by abseiling off the roof of her new home ground on Sunday.
Coach Ben Jeffries devised the team bonding exercise as to break down the barriers between the squad of strangers while showing off the stadium they will soon represent.
Jillaroos and Indigenous All Stars representative Dibb, a self-confessed adrenaline junkie and premiership-winner with the Knights a season ago, hailed the activity as an exciting introduction to North Queensland.
“A lot of the girls either know each other well or don’t know each or at all, so bridging that gap between friendships and beating challenges really early (was good),” Dibb said.
“Some girls were really quite scared and we got each other through it which I think was really cool.
“It was nice to be around the girls and also see our stadium from that view. This is our new home ground, so we wanted to get a home ground advantage
and that’s one way to do it.”
Dibb’s admiration for Ben Jeffries, the former Tigers and Dragons halfback leading the club’s NRLW charge as head coach, was clear.
“In the women’s game we’ve got a lot of coaches that haven’t had a lot experience coaching women’s sport, and as much as there’s not a whole range of differences, there are just a few that ‘ BJ’ nails every time,” Dibb said. “The way he can build relationships within the team and put a team together has been incredible from my experience. I’m excited to see what we can do in a few months under that kind of coaching.”
Dibb flagged potential halves partner Tahlulah Tillett as one Cowboy she was particularly excited to join forces with.
The pair were signed together at Newcastle but did share the field – something Dibb hopes to fix in 2023.
