Ad­ven­ture travel spe­cial­ist Ex­plore! World­wide has in­tro­duced a new small-group High­lights of Su­ma­tra itin­er­ary, de­signed to un­cover the ‘real’ In­done­sia. Op­er­at­ing roundtrip from Medan, the eight-day Cul­tural Dis­cov­ery itin­er­ary ex­plores the jun­gles of Bo­horok in North­ern Su­ma­tra and the vil­lages dot­ted around Lake Toba (from Samosir), to learn about the unique cus­toms and ri­tu­als of the lo­cals. Par­tic­i­pants have the chance to spot Thomas Leaf Mon­keys, long-tail macaques, slow Ioris, snakes, Su­ma­tran pea­cock, fly­ing squir­rels and mouse dear. High­lights in­clude a morn­ing rain­for­est walk to spot wild Orangutans in Bukit Lawang and a drive to the hill sta­tion of Berastagi. Op­tional ac­tiv­i­ties in­clude a sun­rise climb up the ac­tive Sibayak vol­cano or the rice fields. The tour op­er­ate be­tween March-april and July-oc­to­ber 2017. Prices lead in at $1,214 per per­son (land only), which in­cludes seven nights ho­tel ac­com­mo­da­tion on a bed & break­fast ba­sis, trans­port, driver and lo­cal guides.
