SOME REALLY SERIOUS FOLK – THE MONARO FANS

Established over 35 years ago by a group of enthusiasts, the Monaro Club of Queensland brings together devotees of Holden’s original muscle car.

The Monaro, one of Australia’s most revered muscle cars, quickly became iconic, when the original HK model won Wheels Car of the Year and Bathurst in 1968.

The second-generation HQ-HJ Monaro arrived in 1971 in both two-door and four-door variants.

Passion for the Monaro was reignited with the introduction of the thirdgeneration CV models that were produced from 2001 to 2005.

With over 135 members, the Monaro Club of Queensland prides itself on a family-friendly culture and according to President Rod Boyle, it is quite common for two and three-generations of the one family to regularly attend functions in several Monaros.

“We have members ranging from teens to late 70s and everyone in between. From teachers to builders, doctors, plumbers and even a policeman,” says Boyle.

The Club focuses on social gatherings where members can enjoy their cars, swap stories and information and meet new friends at the one-day and overnight drives, swap meets, show and shine and outings around Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and sometimes further into regional Queensland.

Club membership includes a monthly magazine, club sticker, membership card and affiliation with the Australian Street Machine Federation (ASMF) and Queensland Historic Motoring Council (QHMC).

The Club welcomes owners and enthusiasts of all model Monaro’s, from the HK to the CV8Z. Both factory originals and meticulously restored or highly modified Monaros are all welcome, as are those with other Holden and General Motors manufactured models.

A major benefit of becoming a member is the resource pool to call on for technical and model information, authentication and parts sourcing, whether it’s finding a replacement radio for HT GTS through to a complete resto.

A highlight of the 2018 calendar is the four-day Monaro Nationals, to be held in Launceston from November 30, when Monaros from around the country will descend on the Apple Isle for shows, drives, sharing of knowledge and meeting new friends at the many social events planned.
