IT’S THE MUST-see documentary telling the story of Bruce McLaren the Kiwi racer who dared to dream big and win big.

The founder of McLaren Racing, who was killed at age 32, was one of the most respected and revered figures in motorsport.

Directed by Roger Donaldson, of The World’s

Fastest Indian fame and starring Dwayne Cameron as Bruce McLaren, the movie traces Bruce’s life from his childhood days to his glory days, winning LeMans as well as building and racing the cars bearing his name and beating the best in the world.

Donaldson became hooked on motorsport when watching the Tasman Series: an eight-week, back-to-back championship in the mid-60s to mid-70s period, run in NZ and Australia that attracted the world’s best including McLaren, Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart and our own Jack Brabham.

Speaking to flicks-co. nz Donaldson said “I was delighted to be involved in the telling of such an incredible New Zealand story – bringing it to life on the big screen has been a huge effort from all involved in Bruce’s legacy. I look forward to the people of New Zealand seeing this inspiring story in cinemas across New Zealand this winter. Ever since seeing Bruce McLaren and Jack Brabham race each other in the Tasman series years ago I’ve been a McLaren fan. Few people know just how extraordinary his journey was and how much he accomplished in his short life.”

McLaren started racing sportscars while studying and in 1957 entered the New Zealand Grand Prix. At the time he became youngest driver to win a Formula One Grand Prix, when he won the US GP at age 22.

He formed Team McLaren in 1964. McLaren lost his life in a testing accident at Goodwood in 1970. There on that fateful day was McLaren mechanic, Jimmy Stone, of Stone Bros Racing.
