thing that we look forward to as a source of inspiration for restoring and revitalising old cars, it's the annual Sidchrome Project Car.

In the past we've seen the rev-heads over at Sidchrome create some excellent restomod machines, like the 2015 bay-window Kombi van and the 2016 Coyote-powered Cobra replica.

Now Sidchrome has set its sights on a wonderfully tatty 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 that's spent the majority of its life in a shed somewhere in California, and it's definitely in need of some TLC.

Actually, it's going to get quite a lot more than TLC – think complete nut-and-bolt resto, and then some.

For a start, the Mustang will be heading over to Charlie Schwerkolt's Team 18 Supercar firm, where two of their racing mechanics will be working full-time on completely rebuilding the Mach 1.

In addition, master of race engines, Charlie Saliba, will be putting his learned hands to work to give new life to the old 351 Windsor donk.

Modifications to the engine will include new TFC alloy heads, a Comp Cams Thumpr roller cam, Speed Pro hypereutectic pistons and uprated valvetrain, 650 Quick Fuel four-barrel carburettor, RPM Air Gap manifold, serpentine belt system, PWR radiator and an ICE ignition system.

According to Sidchrome and the guys at Team 18, all these mods should add up to a conservative 300kW (400bhp), which sounds like plenty of power to us!

Another area of the Mustang that will get some special attention will be the FMX automatic transmission, which will be sent over to the guys at Pro Automatics for a complete rebuild and strengthening to match the stronger engine.

To make sure the 'Stang's chassis can handle the prodigious oomph and go round corners, a number of upgrades will be made including: coil-over suspension front and rear, power steering, Harrop brake kit and Forgeline three piece wheels.

The Mach 1 will also get a complete cosmetic makeover both inside and out, and will feature a totally re-upholstered interior and a bare metal respray in Audi's Nardo Grey.
