TELL US WATCHA THINK

I WAS disappointed that the ‘Cop Cars in Pop Culture’ article didn’t mention the cars from the forerunner of all Aussie Cop shows, Homicide.

From Studebaker Larks in early years through to the VH Valiants, XP Falcons and HT Holdens among others. Being only three-years-old when

Homicide started in 1964, I didn’t start watching it until I was in my teens. So I was excited when Crawfords started releasing the Homicide DVDs including the early years, and I’m currently watching Season 10 (circa 1970).

You get a laugh from the opening credits if you’re keeping your eyes on the cars because you pick up some mistakes. The credits show an HK Kingswood drive up and do a U-turn, parking in front of an HK div v y van. The van’s still there as Alw yn Kurts pops out of the front passenger side. Next, Leonard Teale hops out of the rear passenger side of what has suddenly become an XR Falcon. Then, Norman Yemm hops out of the rear driver’s-side door, and there’s still no sign of the HK div v y van.

Finally, George Mallaby hops out of the driver’s door of an XR Falcon, and they all meet beside the HK Kingswood (that has mysteriously returned) and walk up the stairs.

There’s one episode that sticks in my mind, from the time they were using XP Falcons. The squad was chasing an escapee through the bush, and you could’ve sworn you were watching an ad for Ford, as the XP displays it’s superior toughness over the bush tracks, compared to the earlier f limsy XKs and XLs.

And in Season 10 I’ve seen Jack Thompson driving an XW GT Falcon, and a RHD 1969 Ford Mustang Convertible owned by a playboy who’s a target for murder. Wow.

Can’t wait to start Season 11!

Nice to see someone happy in their work...hope you like the photos!
