CHRYSLER’S FIRST Australian Valiant, launched in 1962 was based on its US counterpart but beefed up to handle Aussie conditions. The next-in-line ‘S’ Series Valiant, used the same sheet metal and underpinnings, but with a revised grille, tail lights and upgraded brakes. It still had the 225ci slant six-cylinder engine, which outperformed the Holden and Ford competition of the day.
