Splurging at Sea, Customized Luxury Yacht Vacations

CUSTOMIZED LUXURY YACHT VACATIONS

- | By Alona Abbady Martinez

Whether it’s St. Tropez to Monaco, Calvi to Cala di Vope, or a week exploring the Caribbean, Camper & Nicholsons International has the luxury super yachting adventure for you. Camper & Nicholsons, first founded in 1782, is considered to be the experts in high-end luxury yachting. With 13 offices worldwide, financial offices in Monaco, and U.S. headquarters in West Palm Beach, their reach spans across the world.

Barbara Dawson, lead charter broker based in West Palm Beach, has been in the business for almost 30 years, 23 of those with the company. “We cover a wide spectrum of yachts. Larger yachts are 90 feet and above, but our largest yachts run 400 feet.”

Prices for yacht charters range from $25k to $3-4 million dollars a week, with some clients booking for up to 6 weeks. All trips are custom-tailored and can take place literally anywhere in the world.

“You dream it, we make it happen!”, Dawson assures.

The biggest demand has been in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, although more exotic locations are seeing a rise in popularity.

“We have seen a big push for the Antarctic. We have a yacht called Legend which is simply phenomenal.”

Legend is an award-winning 254-foot icebreaker turned luxury explorer yacht. It is available for charters in more remote areas of the world, such as Antarctica, Greenland, the Norwegian Fjords and the Arctic circle and also cruises throughout Europe, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and South America. With 13 luxury cabins, it can accommodate up to 26 guests. The yacht has a swim platform and a swimming pool, a gym, Balinese spa with sauna, Jacuzzi and beauty salon, movie theatre and entertainment system, medical suite, and any toy you can imagine from paddle boards to jet-skis to snow scooters. It also boasts a helicopter landing pad that is commercially certified as well as a submarine stored in a garage on the forward deck (both offered at an extra cost.) There are 19 crew on board as well as 10 expedition crew members (doctor, ice-pilot, expedition leaders, naturalists.)

Popular Mediterranean spots include Italy and Greece. Dawson also encourages prospective clients interested in a trip to this part of the world to consider Turkey, an area she believes has some of the best cruising. For those seeking something a little more forgotten, Dawson also has the perfect spot.

“Indonesia is great if you want something a little more remote.”

For this destination Dawson recommends a long-time favorite, Lamima. It accommodates 14 guests with 7 cabins and 20 crew members and has a cruising speed of 10 knots. Created by esteemed yacht designer Marcelo Penna, Lamima, known to be the world’s largest wooden sailing yacht just shy of 214 feet, merges traditional Indonesian hospitality with modern superyacht opulence. It offers inviting al fresco dining and a lounging area shaded by a Bimini top where qualified SPA therapists will help you unwind with message therapy. For adventure-seekers, Lamima has two PADI diving instructors happy to teach beginners or guide advance divers throughout the biodiverse waters of Asia. Onboard tour guides give guests a first-hand account of the history, culture, and local customs of the islands explored.

Camper & Nicholsons yachts for Mediterranean and the Caribbean excursions include Clicia, a 137-foot vessel with 5 cabins for up to 10 guests and Trending, a motor yacht featuring 6 cabins for up to 12 guests. Clicia’s main saloon boasts full height windows, making the space warm and inviting while providing a light and airy atmosphere. The vessel has a cardio gym and a relaxing sky lounge on the upper deck which also benefits from floor to ceiling windows that inundate the interior with sunlight and offer exceptional panoramic views. And one must not overlook Clicia’s outside space: an expansive sun deck that accommodates a bar, plenty of comfortable seating arrangements, and a Jacuzzi surrounded by sun pads is fodder for timeless memories. Trending boasts a super-sized sundeck with a large hot tub surrounded by sun pads and a bar, the perfect venue for enjoying a sunset cocktail. The indoor skylounge on the bridge deck includes a large bar, opening with an extension to accommodate al fresco dining for 12. There are plenty of water activities available as well: stand up Yamaha jet-skis, Sea-Doo watercraft, SeaBobs, glass bottom kayaks, paddleboards, kite surfing gear, a netted swimming pool with inflatable decking and scuba diving gear with PADI instructors ready to help explore the turquoise waters.

Each Camper & Nicholsons yacht comes with a full crew, chef, insurance of the vessel and the vessel itself. Payment must be made fully in cash one month before the trip is to begin. Parallel to providing the finest luxury yachts in the industry, Camper & Nicholsons’ priority is the client.

“It is important that clients feel comfortable with the company and broker because of the nature of the transaction and Camper & Nicholsons, as well as its brokers, have a long-standing record of professionalism and trust,” Dawson states.

Their track records speak volumes, with most of their business being repeat customers. Others are adventurers that have tried everything except luxury yachting and want to give it a try. Dawson recommends booking in advance so there is plenty of time to customize the client’s individual needs and get them the perfect yacht for their trip. Still, never one to shy away from a challenge, Dawson confidently reassures she can and has designed last-minute excursions that clients have raved about.

“I can do it a week before,” she laughs.
