WHEN TO GO
New Orleans has a tropical climate, and summer (June-September) is particularly hot and humid. The two weeks leading up to Mardi Gras are the busiest and most expensive times to go. Mardi Gras is 45 days before Easter, and in 2018 it will be on Tuesday 13 February. Another busy time is during Jazz & Heritage Festival, which takes place in the spring (April-June).

WHAT TO KNOW
Wear comfortable shoes because you’ll walk a lot. Drink lots of water (yes, water) because with the humidity, you won’t realise how much water your body is losing. Carry lightweight rain gear or an umbrella. If you care about eating at a particular restaurant, make reservations ahead.
