Set high on a clifftop overlooking Erakor Lagoon in Port Vila, adults'-only Mangoes Resort has 29 beautifully appointed boutique bungalows, perfect for couples seeking a relaxing tropical escape in the South Pacific. Mangoes has four levels of accommodation, each offering either garden views or panoramic views of the lagoon and coastline. We stayed in one of the deluxe Garden View Apartments, which are double the size of the bungalows and have their own private terrace and plunge pools, essential when looking to escape Vanuatu’s heat. Even if you don’t book a villa with its own pool, there are three other large swimming pools, so you rarely need to share. The apartment itself is spacious and in harmony with its surrounds. Plantation shutters allow the cool breezes to flow through the fan-cooled rooms (air conditioning is charged extra). A roomy living area features a sofa and deep armchairs to sink into after a long day of exploring, and there’s a kitchenette if you want to self-cater.

Mangoes Restaurant and Bar has a reputation as one of the best restaurants in Port Vila, serving fresh seafood and island specialties. A light continental breakfast is included in most accommodation packages, or a cooked breakfast for an additional charge. Mangoes Resort offers plenty of facilities to keep you entertained throughout your stay, including a tennis court and gym at sister property The Terraces next door.
