The beauty of mid-season collections? Their wearable take on outlandish trends.

-

Once upon a time, resort, or cruise season, as it’s also known, was created to fill in that pesky period after the autumn/ winter season dropped and right before the spring/summer season. It was whenw northern hemisphere customers sought summer escapes during their winter months, whiling away their vacations at far-flung resorts or taking exotic cruises (now you know where the

names come from). And now this little inbetween seasonal drop isn’t quite so little anymore. It’s in stores the longest, and fashion industry people secretly love it for completely selfish reasons, since it’s when we can actually buy into a trend we noted earlier, because resort has revisited that trend in a more realistic way. Take Sacai’s nifty mutant garments from the autumn/ winter runway: they look stellar storming down the line, but are more challenging when worn in real life by real people. For resort, they transformed into pretty skirts and voluminous A-line jackets and coats, losing none of their drama but more of their bulk. And Rosie Assoulin, she of the dramatic party-ready silhouette, has proffered some more street-inspired looks like cargo pants and anorak – cut with a long trailing tail and in yellow, of course. A fan of Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini’s redux-Victoriana looks from the runway, but your life is a little more cafe brunch-on-Sunday rather than highs a loon- cum- caba ret- s t yle cocktails? Then the frilled and printed Western-style blouses from his resort are for you. It’s the runway looks reinvented for the racks come resort season. (Now, say that three times, fast.) Smart move, right? ZW
