Alexis Armanet
PHOTOGRAPHER
Paris-based photographer Alexis Armanet has had a love affair with photography ever since his grandmother gave him his first Kodak camera at the age of 14. Commencing his career in newspapers before moving to fashion, his work now spans sensual portraits and engaging interiors, gracing the pages of Architectural Digest France and T Magazine among other respected titles. “The camera is my pen and paper,” he says. “I learned a lot in my time as a fashion photographer. It is a totally different and creative way to look at things.” For this issue, Armanet travelled to Antigua to photograph the holiday home of designer Giorgio Armani (page 132). “I’m inspired by nature,” he says. “Without being pretentious, I am convinced that our planet and all living things are the infinite inspiration. For me, photography is about the sensation of taking a picture. It’s about feeling more than just looking. This is why I keep shooting. I have an emotional connection when I work.” @alexisarmanet
