Martin Morrell
PHOTOGRAPHER
British photographer Martin Morrell trained as an architect before he started taking pictures, receiving his first big break shooting a series of powerful portraits on racism in Britain for
The Independent newspaper. Morrell’s career has since evolved to cover travel, advertising, fashion and interiors photography for publications including Condé Nast Traveller, W Magazine and The Wall Street Journal. In this issue, Morrell shot the Tuscan holiday home of Italian architect and artist Vincenzo de Cotiis (page 80). “When it comes to interiors, the most important thing for me is to try and convey a sense of place, light, form and feeling — to create images that link to one another to give an impression of how the space flows,” says Morrell. The highlight of this particular trip to Italy, says the award-winning photographer, was not only visiting such a unique space but also meeting the creators of the work, Vincenzo and his partner Claudia Rose. “I have had the fortune to have visited many beautiful interiors but the Pietrasanta home of Vincenzo de Cotiis has to be one of my all-time favourites.” martinmorrell.com @_martin_morrell
