With a brief inspired by contemporary luxury retail interiors, Conrad applied an “architectural approach” to the home that, he says, looks beyond surface finish and colour to create spaces rich in character by controlling natural light and form. “The interiors are purposefully understated, avoiding any ostentatious representations of luxury,” says Conrad. “The material selection is kept neutral with a primarily white-and-grey palette, punctuated with multiple marbles for highlights and texture.”
In the clean-lined kitchen — with its all-white bank of cabinets behind which are concealed fridges, ovens, sinks and storage — the marble accent presents as a monolithic island bench. “The visual expression of the kitchen is reduced to a single block of marble,” says Conrad. “It was a non-negotiable luxury.”
The stone theme continues in the main ensuite with a custom vanity celebrating the timeless appeal of natural materials. “I love the way that a single material forms all aspects of the vanity,” says Conrad. “There’s a sense of restraint and calm that creates a feeling of escape and retreat.” conradarchitects.com
