New home for Dino

-

A special children’s bed in the shape of a dinosaur has been donated by the West Gippsland Healthcare Group to the Warragul and District Special School.

Affectionately known by staff and young patients as Dorothy the Dino, staff recently farewelled the bed as it was loaded onto the back of a truck to her new home.

In 2009 Drouin Rotary Club made a donation for the purchase of a dinosaur examination bed for the hospital’s paediatric procedure room.

Over the past six years, the dinosaur has brought many smiles to sick children and it has been quite a novelty to many families and visitors.

Sadly with changing technology and the increase in additional clinical equipment required in the paediatric procedure room, the dinosaur has presented several clinical and occupational safety hazards and can no longer be used in the health service.

The Warragul and District Special School was delighted to hear that the dinosaur required a new home and were very happy to take care of her.

Drouin Rotary Club president Ian Bennett, who was the driver of the pick-up truck said the club was pleased that Dorothy was being re-homed where she can continue to bring a smile to many kids’ faces.

“Like the Hospital, the Warragul and District Special School do a wonderful job in our community,” he said.

For more than 20 years the club has donated more than $67,000 to the West Gippsland Healthcare Group.
