NEVER TOO YOUNG TO BE FIRE SAFE

-

There was a lot more to the always popular visit of a fire truck when Drouin West CFA officers arrived at the Drouin Childcare centre last Wednesday.

As well as getting their chance to hop in the driver’s seat, climb over the truck and get excited when the hose was turned on there was a much more serious side for the three to five year olds from the junior room.

The visit of the Drouin West captain Bruce Jewell, lieutenants Brian Connelly and Kevin Armstrong and “fire safe kids” program presenter Sam Whittaker was part of learning to be safe in a fire.

Centre director Fiona Hyland said the children practiced “get down low” to avoid smoke and to feel doors to see if they’d become warm by a fire on the other side.

The children were also given a work sheet to take home explaining how to make a family bushfire plan.
