Howie Bros return to Drouin
The Howie Bros and Wayne Horsburgh will return to Drouin for an afternoon concert on Thursday, November 12 at 2pm.
After sell-out evening shows in recent years, the performers decided to embark on an afternoon melodies concept at the Drouin Anglican Church Hall.
The afternoon will feature lots of singalongs, many popular songs and different instruments including 12-string guitar, ukulele, mandolin and piano accordion.
The Howie Bros have just completed a successful Scandinavian Cruise, performing alongside Adam Harvey. They will undertake a Mediterranean Cruise next year with Wayne Horsburgh and Tania Kernaghan.
Identical twins Graeme and John Howie grew up on a Brandy Creek Rd dairy farm and attended Warragul North Primary School.
At seven-years-old, they started singing lessons with June Orchard at Albert Fox’s music studio in Warragul. Upon her suggestion, they also undertook piano lessons with Irene Howells in Warragul.
The pair became secondary school classroom music teachers for about 30 years. John even taught Kylie Minogue at Camberwell High School.
The Howie Bros are the only Australians to have won the International Harmony Award in the USA. They also won three Golden Guitars as members of band “1901”.
The pair has recorded 40 albums, the latest being “The Love Songs Collection”, a two CD set of 40 songs.
Joining the duo in Drouin is Wayne Horsburgh who has won six “Mo” awards for club entertainment in Australia. He is a wonderful yodeller, similar in style to Frank Ifield, Slim Whitman and Marty Robbins.
Raised around Benalla, Wayne spent 25 years performing in the USA with greats like Merle Haggard, George Jones and Vince Gill. He has just released a new album.
The Drouin Anglican Church Hall concert will run from 2pm to 3.30pm. The opportunity for a cuppa and biscuit halfway through the show will be on offer.
Tickets are $15 per person and available at the door.
