Bushwalking

-

Four women from the West Gippsland Bushwalking Club recently completed the Cape to Cape walk in the South West region of Western Australia.

Starting at Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, they walked 135km over seven days from north to south along the beautiful west coast, finishing at the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse near Augusta.

It is possible to camp along the route but the walkers took the more pleasant option of staying in accommodation and being transported to the route each day.

Being spring, the wildflowers were in full bloom and the variety of shapes and colours created beautiful naturally landscaped and perfumed ‘gardens’.

Many orchids including spider, donkey and cowslips were seen by the sharp eyed in the group to the delight of all.

The coast was at its wildest some days with crashing surf and white caps.

There was a lot of variety including soft beach sand, rocky cliff ledges, forest tracks and heath headlands and they also passed through small coastal villages.

It was a great walk and the walkers highly recommend it.

The West Gippsland Bushwalking Club walk every second Tuesday.
