Most junior games washed out
More than half the junior games, including all under 16 matches, were washed out this week due rain on Saturday.
Fortunately for four Under 14’s matches, the rain held off for long enough to complete the first day.
Under 14s
Warragul/Western Park v Drouin Gold Patty Mulqueen made a gutsy 35 not out to help Warragul to a commanding 7-148 at the weekend. Mulqueen was terrific in testing conditions, and was ably supported by Lachlan Shelton (23).
Bowling wasn’t easy at times for Drouin with the wet ball, and the number of extras was testament to this, but their depth in the bowling is also supported by depth in the batting, which will give them a chance. Neerim District v Yarragon Yarragon’s final score of 5-143 was made possible by terrific lower order batting, as a top order collapse triggered by Riley Ferguson (2-4) had the Panthers in trouble early.
Kai McLean’s 38 not out was the highlight for Yarragon, as he led them to a probable winning score. Jindivick v Hallora A rampant Hallora side troubled Jindivick’s bowling line-up at the weekend, as they incredibly made 0-211.
Jai Serong (36*) and Chris Diston (35*) set the platform, as Liam Serong (35*) and Bradley Ward (37*) finished the innings with a flurry of runs.
Jindivick battled very bravely in extremely unfavourable conditions, but were outclassed by a strong side. Drouin Maroon v Ellinbank Sam Pratt (3-5) had a field day, destroying Drouin Maroon’s top order until they recovered to be 7-94 off 35 overs.
Pratt took wickets with ease, as he reduced the opposition to 5-42, before Drouin recovered.
Nick Caddy proved his case to be moved up the order, as he continues on a crucial 17 not out, but they will need to fight hard to win this one next week.
