This week’s feature was the second round of the 2015/16 Summer Cup.

The fact that it has been the driest October on record with the prevailing conditions more like a very dry February rather than a regular spring.

It was only a month ago that preferred lies were in play. Now as highlighted last week the scores have shot right up in the high 40s for stableford and the low 60s for stroke.

Peter Lacey did best with a fine net 61 to win B grade whilst Peter Bogart continued his red hot form by scoring 62 to win C grade.

Terry Garratt is also having a great recent run, with a 63 net playing off a mark of nine to win A grade.

Balls down the line went to scores of 65 to a count back.

Out of a field of 76 players some 26 scored better than net 70.

Gus McKillop had another brilliant round by scoring a 65, net 66 which included eight birdies and bogeys on the first, thirteenth and seventeenth holes, simply an awesome round, but not qualifying as the course record as the tee markers are required to be at their full length.

At the other end of the field poor Russ Loughridge finished with a net 83, just the 18 shots more than last week.

No problems though for Loughridge, as you are able to drop your worst score for Summer Cup qualification.

On Thursday a field of 52 had a game with John Simcocks having shot a great score of 46 points to win the second division playing off a mark of 36, whilst Gary Kelly showed a return to form with 46 also to claim victory in the first division.

Twenty-one players played to their mark or better by scoring 36 and above.

A score of 40 points or better was required to get a ball down the line.

The secret nine jackpot ent to Ken Shannon whom scored a very nice 44 points.

The women’s membership continues to grow and in fact it was a very big welcome to newest member Jillian Gay who shot a great round of 44 points to claim victory in Tuesday’s competition.

Her score was eight points clear of the next best, being Heather Mifsud and Gail Franklin.

Quite a few of the women are still away whilst a group ventured to Drouin to play in their competition.

All women are reminded of the upcoming Churchill Monash Bowl event which is to be played on Friday November 13 as well as the West Gippsland seniors and singles event which is to be played at Garfield on Monday November 23.

All golfers are advised that because of this the club will be closed on this day to all other members and visitors.

Women’s presentation is to follow the next day being November 24, of which more information is to come or phone the club for details.
